Poem + My Editor Hard at Work!

Happy Monday everyone!

First off, I wanted to share this poem with you. The first line resulted from a rather silly conversation I had with my mother, and the rest followed. See if you can guess what the poem’s actually talking about:

I ate its ears in a fit of pique
Broken shards of brown
Cascade down smooth curves
Sprinkled across a carpet of cream

Also, I recently finished the re-write for Chasing Nonconformity, and I gave it to my mother to read when she went to Cuba for vacation last week. She just sent me some photos of her hard at work at the beach, editing my book, so I thought I’d share!

Doesn’t she look tranquil? She’s about halfway through the book, and has tentatively agreed to have the full edit done by the end of May. So, fingers crossed, I might actually be able to release this book this fall!

In other news … don’t forget to enter my giveaway!

It runs until May 26 — click here for details!

Unrelated media of the day:

I may have shared this before, but I just came across it again and I love it, so here it is!

  1. That’s a great little comic. Made me laugh. As for the poem . . . an edible teddy bear?

  2. inkspeare

Easter bunny! Your mom looks great!

  3. Wow – what a great place to be editing ! Hope it all goes well and I kind of got the edible thing for the poem but hadn’t managed to pin it down to a rabbit. 🙂

    • I know, right?! I’m quite jealous of her getaway. That’s why I sent my book along with her — give her some work to do so she can’t just sleep the vacation away, lol.

  4. Chocolate Santa with deformed, rabbit-like ears? No?

  5. Just curious, do you ever feel held back or restrained in your writing knowing that your Mum edits it?

Like, are there moments where you think, “Oh shit! I don’t really want My Mum reading that do I?”

    • Absolutely. It’s not so bad with the YA novels, because I do keep them tame on purpose. But if I were ever to write something a bit more adult in nature … not sure if she would be allowed to look at it, lol.

  6. Please don’t send any more photos like that; I’m bursting with envy! 😀

We went to Cuba with the missus a few years ago. We spent a week in Havana and one in Varadero. Is that where your mom is?

    • Hahaha sorry. That’s the last one 😀

Umm … I believe she spent a few days in Havana, and then went to Varadero for another few days — to one of the resorts. She loved Havana — she was explaining how all the buildings used to be absolutely gorgeous, and are now run-down and derelict. Oh, and the classic 1950s American cars driving around!

  7. I love the little poem, must be about an easter bunny chocolate?

Also, that comic made me laugh 😀

What do you think?
