Fanfiction

Do you like the Hunger Games? If so, keep reading.

I don’t care what anyone says, fanfiction is awesome. Therefore, I present to you: my fanfiction.

Have you read the Hunger Games series? More importantly, did you read Catching Fire, fall in love with Finnick Odair, then read Mockingjay and nearly have an emotional breakdown when he … you know …? I did, and I wrote a fanfiction celebrating his life. Also, there’s a twist ending, so don’t reach for the tissues just yet. At first I just wrote it for myself, then people started reading it, and before I knew what had happened, I won a couple of awards, and got an offer from a fan to translate the story into Chinese. Intrigued yet? If so, click the link below and check it out! It’s totally finished, so no worries about waiting for updates, cursing my existence over long waits between chapters, etc.

  1. I’m not really a fan of the Hunger Games but I live for fanfic so I had to comment and follow πŸ˜€

i loved your Finnick/Annie fan fiction book thingy. they are my new favorite HG couple thanks to your book πŸ™‚ will you do anymore writing about the HG characters?

    • Aw, thanks! I’m planning to post an Epilogue to this story when my own book comes out — you know, remind all my fans I’m alive, give them a fun epilogue, plus encourage them to check out a book I can actually make money off of, lol. I haven’t been inspired to write any more HG fanfics thus far, but it might happen!

Oooooh, fanfiction! I’m addicted to Hunger Games and to fanfiction in general; I haven’t really read a lot of HG fanfiction, but I’m excited to read yours when I get the chance!
I thought Finnick was a cool character, but he wasn’t my favorite. I do know someone, though, who practically wept when I died. I’ll be sure to send this to her ;D

I’m adding this to my reading list for tonight. I’ve read all three HG books and I just couldn’t stop reading them – did it back-to-back over a two day period. I honestly don’t see why people got a “Twilight” vibe from them.

    • A Twilight vibe? Really. I’d never even thought to equate HG with Twilight. I guess there’s a love triangle … and that’s pretty much where the similarities stop, lol.

      • Yannis Vatis

It’s not like the love triangle was overplayed either. I think the author actually made use of that aspect very effectively. I guess some people are just too quick to judge a book by its cover – pun not intended.

Your fan fiction was one of the best things I have read in a long, long time. I started it last night, stayed up until two in the morning reading it, and finished it early this afternoon. I was on the verge of tears and laughter the entire time. I loved the ending, and I find it somewhat strange that I did, to be honest. I usually hate when fan fiction strays from the author’s intent, but since Finnick’s death was so abrupt and, like you said yourself, vague, I think you did his character justice in giving him the happy ending he so obviously deserved. Your characterization was fantastic. I have yet to read a fan fiction that captured who Finnick is as a character as well as you did. I will never be able to re-read the trilogy now without knowing that all the words you wrote…that IS Finnick’s backstory. Those WERE his thoughts. No one will ever be able to convince me otherwise. As far as I’m concerned, everything you wrote is canon. Suzanne Collins would be very pleased with your work, I think. If I’m being perfectly honest, I think I enjoyed reading your novel just as much, if not more (gasp!) as the Hunger Games trilogy itself. You are talented beyond belief; I hope you know that, and I really hope that you see this comment and know that your story has touched my life in a way I don’t even understand. I will be the first person to buy your novel as soon as it’s released. You have a fan in me. πŸ™‚

    • My day was going pretty well, but then I read your comment and you just bumped the day up to fantastic πŸ˜€ I’m so glad you liked the story — I just finished reading Mockingjay, sat back in my chair, and was like, “No. That is not how it ends for Finnick. That is not fair.” And thus, the fanfiction was born. I actually wrote the first part in one day, which might give you some idea of how incensed I was at the ending of Mockingjay, lol. Anyway, thank you so much for the wonderful words πŸ™‚

I’m immensely curious–I just clicked through the link and saw the sheer *volume* of your story! Did you plan it out before you started, did you “pants” it the entire way, or did you have specific plot points that you mapped out in advance (both of your own design or as declared by the storyline for the original books) to kind of give you a trail to follow without doing a chapter-by-chapter breakdown of the entire story?

    Thanks!
