Ladies and gentlemen, it’s finally here. My cover, that is. It’s been quite the process, and a frustrating one at that. But all the silliness and incompetence is now behind me, so let’s focus on the important part — the book cover reveal!
I therefore present to you … the soft cover of Imminent Danger And How to Fly Straight into It!
Not too shabby, right? There are still little nitpicky things I would change, but overall I think it looks pretty good. I mean, ideally I would have liked to have a graphic designer create silhouettes of the actual characters, including all their unique physical characteristics and whatnot, but the silhouettes I ended up with are good enough.
Here’s the hard cover:
Aaaand here’s just the gorgeous front cover:
So that’s that. The cover is done, and the book files are now being whisked away to the printer to be … well, printed. That should take a couple of weeks, and then hypothetically the book will be available for sale. Yay!
Unrelated image of the day:
Since adorable baby Chewbacca went over so well, I have concluded that you people like cute things. Therefore, here is my gift to you:
D’awwwwwww! Wait, here’s another one:
And another …
Okay, I’m done now.
Looks great! You’re almost there. P.S. That rabbit is evil.
Lol how can you tell?
All rabbits are evil. There is an underground evil rabbit empire that threatens daily to usurp humankind’s place at the pinnacle of Earthly evolution.
I totally agree but the most evil are the albino ones that use mind control to freeze you before they jump on you baring their teeth, I am still scarred from my sisters rabbit attacking me thirty years ago physically and mentally
I always thought it was the mice that were at the heart of the Usurp – unless they are using the rabbits as muscle?
No kidding. You’d think they’d talk about that more on the news. Have you by any chance seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer? I feel you would appreciate the rabbits-are-evil viewpoint of a character named Anya.
Oh I know Anya, but I’m only halfway through Season Four so the only mention is the bunny costume … so far.
I’m fairly certain Hitler, Napoleon, Treat Williams, and Boris Pasternak were/are minions of the Evil Rabbit Empire.
Aw, Napoleon wasn’t such a bad dude. He just wanted to spread equality and sideways hats to the rest of Europe.
I loved a comment by Raj on Big Bang Theory…he hates rabbits because they always look like they’re about to say something but never do. Having said that I have a rabbit named Pasta sitting beside me as I type this…such a wonderful little social creature she be….
Pasta is possibly the most adorable name for a pet I have ever heard. I must acquire a pet and name it Pasta. Although that would be infringing on your intellectual property. Perhaps … Lasagna? No, too Garfield. Hmm … Tortellini? Or we could get exotic and go with Rice Noodle. No, that just sounds silly …
Michelle, it looks really nice. Stands out and gets attention. Congratulations. You’re getting there! Enjoy the ride.
Thanks! It’s definitely way better than anything I could have done, so I’m fairly pleased 🙂
Wow Michelle. This is really nice. I like it!
Yay!!!
Woo hoo! I think it looks amazing. Congratulations! I *love* the author bio, by the way. That would be enough by itself to make me pick this book up if I saw it for sale in a shop/on the web/wherever! 😀 It really looks great.
Hahaha I’m honestly surprised iUniverse didn’t comment on the bio when I submitted all the text for the cover. I expected at least a “Are you sure this is what you want?” Foolish humans.
Wow, I love it! Congrats, it’s really vibrant! Noticeable!
Lol that’s what I was going for. Does it feel imminently dangerous to you?
Definitely! It looks brilliant!
Congratulations! The cover looks great. 🙂
Yay! Thank you!
Wow. Looks great!
Go ahead. Pat yourself on the back and smile real big. 🙂
Lol, working on it. I’ll breathe easier once I’m holding the physical copy in my hands and everything looks the way it should.
Looks good. Congrats.
Thanks 🙂
It looks great! I love genre mashups and hope you sell a million of them.
Hahaha you’re not the only one hoping that.
Impressive! Looking forward to reading it!
Woo!
Looks great. I love all your cute furries. 🙂
Lol thanks. You can never have too much cuteness, right? 🙂
Dramatic, punchy and the eye is drawn to the silhouettes. Can’t wait to read it!
Punchy! I like it!
Great cover. Love the red!
It’s fun, right? Equal parts danger and romance. Dum dum dummmmmm … 😀
Very nice cover.
BTW, I don’t think the rabbit is evil. I think the rabbit bears a striking resemblance to Yoda.
Lol it sort of does, doesn’t it? Cute bunny I am. Pet me you will!
I know!!! I’m so excited!!!
Looks good, Michelle! Congrats!!
Thank you 🙂
A congratulations is definitely in order for you – the cover design seems to have come together quite well, and the humor really plays up (both on the blurb and the author biography).
Also – everything is so fluffy and cute! (But, unlike Chewie, lacks a Wookie Bowcaster)
Sigh, I know. Would that all fluffy animals could have Wookie Bowcasters. Wait, that sounds like a terrible idea …
And I’m pretty psyched about the cover 🙂 You have no idea how much fun I had writing the bio! I’m surprised people let me get away with it. I’ll have to alter my bio for each different series so that I fit in with the setting. But then I’ll just start writing books with ridiculous premises just so I can write the author bio based on them … slippery slope alert …
So very excited for you! Congratulations!
Thanks!!!
Looks great – who designed it by the way?
Well, it was a collaboration between myself and the iUniverse design team. I sent them the cover font and the basic idea — silhouettes dancing against a starry red background, and they brought it to life. I also did the silhouettes myself, as the iUniverse design team kind of … failed, lol. And I did all the text-writing.
How does IUniverse work? Is it like Createspace? I finally got a half way decent looking cover because of that site.
Would you be up for a book review? Just curious if you had the time to read mine. I know time is limited.
iUniverse is a vanity publisher — aka you pay them money and they do all the work of editing/designing/formatting/publishing for you. Createspace is more do-it-yourself.
And I’d love to do a book review. I mean, I’ll add it to the list. I can’t promise I’ll get around to reading it anytime soon, but once it’s on the list, it’s there forever, so the review will happen sometime 😀
Thanks. Let me know what you need from me.
Um, just send me a file of your book. It can be in pdf, epub, mobi, whatever works. My email is michellishelli@gmail.com. 🙂
Will do.
Yahoooo!!! So glad to see this– it looks great! 🙂
Thanks!!! Haha I love your enthusiasm. A+!!!
How exciting! Well done, it looks great!
Thanks!!!
Wow, I am soo excited for you, and the cover looks great. I’ll do what I can to help spread the word once its available. I look forward to reading it. Congrates and good luck. 🙂
Thanks so much! And I’ll definitely be doing a WordPress-exclusive book giveaway (real, physical copy of the book, not a kindle/epub), so keep your eyes peeled for that 🙂
Congratulations! Looking forward to this! I think I’ve said that at least once before, haven’t I? Of course if I win the book give-away I’ll be reading the physical book with the cover highly visible on the peak-hour train both to and from work where potentially hundreds of people will see YOUR cover, resulting in many, many Melburnians rushing to their local book shop to buy a copy of Imminent Danger! 😉
But I wouldn’t want to encourage any rigging of give-away competitions or anything like that. 🙂
Oh no, I know you would never condone such a heinous crime. Still, the competition gods will take your words into consideration …
I LOVE your cover. Your bio on the back is adorable (I can say that cuz I’m so much older than you), and yay for the Rising Star award on the back! You look really nice, too. Your smile is brilliant – just like you! Congratulations, Michelle!
Haha thanks. I didn’t know adorable was restricted to someone younger than you. I call my mother adorable all the time. Oh dear. Have I been accidentally infantilizing her? Is that even a word? Ahhhhh!
Oh, I’m so glad you like the word adorable, too. My experience is that young people roll their eyes at me when I say they are adorable because the word is used so often for little children. But I thought your picture was adorable, too!! 🙂 “Inspiring great affection; delightful; charming” – the word should be used more often!! (And your mother *is* adorable!)
Hahaha I’ll tell her you said that. I’m sure she’ll be suitably flattered 🙂
I love the cover! To me, it looks equal parts laser space guns and romance, which is probably what you hoped. I like the colour, it makes the book stand out! It’s wonderful!
Woo! That’s exactly what I was going for!
Oh man, that cover would look awesome in 3D. I love it. My only qualm: you couldn’t have crash landed in Southern California!? All spacecrafts should be set for emergency landing in So. Cal. 😉
Hahahaha. Next time.
glad to know you’ll be space traveling again
Michelle, the heart outlined by the silhouettes is ever so clever… way better than the oh-so-serious and slightly frostbitten soldiers I saw on the cover of War and Peace. Good luck with the book. It sounds like it’s a lot of fun.
You know, I didn’t intend for the silhouettes to form a heart — that happened completely by accident. And I’d totally forgotten about it until now! So thanks for reminding me 🙂
Seeing hearts–I’m afraid it’s the unfortunate workings of an overtired and pareidolic mind…
The book cover looks awesome. Well done on that, Michelle! I am so happy for you. 🙂
Subhan Zein
Thanks! I’m quite pleased with how it turned out 🙂
Great! 🙂

Hi Michelle. Thanks for the thumbs up on my book cover. I’m genuinely impressed by yours too. Good art work and font. 🙂 Interesting bio you’ve got there, space creature!
Hahahaha thanks. When I sat down to write the bio, I started off with the super serious, “Michelle Proulx is a 24-year-old blah blah blah” and then I was like, “Screw it, this is a silly book, let’s have a bio to match.” Und hence why I am now an alien.
I know what you mean about pinning down a good bio that suits the book. I’m generally of the opinion that it’s OK for things to shift, so my bio is on v6 or v7 or something like that. It’ll settle when it’s ready to!
I’m toying with the idea of having a completely different bio for every book, based on what book it is. So for the sequel to Imminent Danger, I’ll still be an alien, but perhaps I will instead be a Vekrori Trade Lord on the run from the Tetrarchy, hiding out on Earth to escape my villainous pursuers. I’m probably having too much fun, but why shouldn’t authors have fun? 😀
Writing is what you make of it, right?! Be creative. Do it your own way!
Congrats on the cover, Michelle! Best of luck to you, so exciting!
–Julie
Thanks 🙂
Yep – Like this book cover. It has a depth to the back ground – I guess that’s what you were looking for judging by the title and the font is extra-terrestrial !! – Yeh the silhouettes a bit clean and perfect maybe – but I noticed because you mentioned it. Well done!
I’m pretty happy with it 🙂 And it looks really great on the printed version of the book, so double success!
