It’s My Birthday!!!

Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me …

That’s right, folks, today is the magical day when, 27 long years ago, I came into this world. I think it’s been a pretty good run so far. Here are some of my random life snippets, in no particular order:

  • Met and now live with some of the best friends this life has to offer (and went to one of their concerts last night!)
  • Developed an everlasting obsession with poodles thanks to my childhood pet Cocoa
  • Earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Classical Studies (have not found a use for it yet, but am working on it!)
  • Utilized a wandering group of fifth graders to save a tent from collapsing
  • Moved to South Korea for a year and taught English / explored / had a blast / fell in love with KPOP
  • Learned to play, with level of competence in descending order: piano, alto sax, handbells, recorder, trumpet
  • Wrote and published two books, with a third on the way!
  • Perfected the gooey and delicious pineapple upside-down cake recipe

If you have any fun and random life snippets, I’d love to hear them! And while you’re compiling your list, remember that Imminent Danger is free to download this weekend, and Chasing Nonconformity is on sale the 23rd to the 30th of December. Want to give me an awesome birthday gift? Read and review one of my books!

Stay awesome, my friends, and party on!

  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHELLE 😀

  2. And that joke is what led to someone becoming an only child.

Very cool about all the instruments you can play to some extent. Happy birthday!

    • “to some extent” lol. That is the key phrase, isn’t it? My trumpeting lasted exactly a month, and ended because I was gripping the damn thing so tightly that I actually injured my hand. And thank you for birthday wishes! It was very fun. In fact, I’m off to eat cake right now …

      • Sounds like you have better luck with instruments than me. I used to play trumpet until I got braces. The way I had to shape my mouth combined with the metal caused bleeding. This happened in 10th grade after I’d been playing (barely) since 4th. So I was put on a euphonium for the bigger mouthpiece. Which caused some humor because one of the high school band teachers was my 4th grade and, I believe, 6th grade band teacher. She’d suggested the dang euphonium from the start and I was stubborn. Someone got a laugh out of that and it wasn’t me.

        • Oh my goodness. I think I just made a connection. I played the alto sax in high school, and it never went quite the way it should have — as in, I always seemed to have more trouble than the other kids with hitting high notes and playing for long periods of time without my mouth getting sore. IT WAS MY DAMNED BRACES!!!!! Thank you so much. You just solved a mystery I’ve been wondering about for years!

  3. Have a very happy birthday!

  4. Happy birthday, and interesting tidbits.

  5. Happy birthday!!! 😀

  6. Happy birthday to my favourite author! (Even though I may be biased. 🙂 )

  7. Happy Birthday!
Hope you are having a great day in equally awesome company.
    All the best,
    Kai

  8. Happy Birthday! Love the joke and the random bits.

  9. Happy Birthday, Michelle! 🙂

  10. Happy birthday and many happy returns, you awesome birthday girl!

Please tell me your next post will include the cake recipe!

    • The cake was purchased from Sobeys, so you’ll have to acquire the recipe from them, lol. Thank you for the birthday wishes! It was a very entertaining day. I sold much tea during the day, and ate delicious pizza and played half a board game in the evening.

      • Surely you can break into Sobeys, climb through the vents, lower yourself into the safe room Mission-Impossible-style and steal the recipe for your best bud from Greece who just happens to have a bit of a sweet tooth?

What would Erin do, I ask you?

    • Correction! (Mother had to clue me into which cake you were talking about, lol) I haven’t created a pineapple upside-down cake in many months, but I shall endeavor to unearth the recipe and share it forthwith!

  11. Happy Birthday, Michelle! You have lots to celebrate!

  12. Happy Birthday Michelle! 🙂

  13. Happy birthday, Michelle! You’ve achieved a great good deal of things in 27 years! 🙂 Here’s to many more to come!

And I’ll say it – that joke earned a chuckle out of me. xD

  14. Happy birthday! I also was brought into this big blue world on the same day. Just turned 43 – everything seems to hurt now.

  15. Happy birthday, Michelle!
Apparently I can play air-instruments very well. No one has ever heard me miss a beat or fluff a note or chord and I take immense pride in that! 😉 I specialise in air-drums, air piano and of course, air-guitar. The best place to hear me play real instruments is in a vacuum chamber (Like outer space, no one can hear you scream… or play badly!)

    • One question: when you play in the vacuum chamber, you do wear a space suit / breathing mask, right? Otherwise you’d be dead, and that would be bad. And thank you for birthday wishes!!

      • I have to admit I don’t do it on a regular basis. You know how it is. A gave song comes on the radio, there’s a lot of prep work in getting instruments set up. But when I do, yes it’s either the full spacesuit or, if the mood takes me I’ll don the wetsuit and scuba gear! Depends on the length of the song. 😉
