New blog/website layout! Check it out :)

Hi all! For anyone who saw my last post, I was very perplexed about the best way to host my website. After sorting through some excellent advice and doing some research, I ended up mapping my domain name over to this very site (WordPress). So now my blog is also my website! Huzzah!

I changed the theme and added a bunch of pages and stuff — feel free to wander around the site and check it out. I clearly know nothing about web design, so if you see anything you don’t like, or think should be done differently, by all means drop me a comment and let me know.

In writing news, I’m still editingΒ Chasing Nonconformity — I went through and did all the major structural edits, so now I’m going through and doing line-by-line stuff. Once I’m done that, it’ll be another round of beta readers, another round of edits … and then, hopefully, time for publication! Fingers crossed we get this puppy out by the end of 2014 — although at the rate I’m accomplishing writing-related tasks this year, we may be looking more at an early 2015 date. Alas.

  1. Love those Harry Potter jokes.

  2. Very nice new format. Love the jokes too!

  3. Nitin Sharma

    Nice website!

  4. I really like your banner picture.

  5. Ok. Ok. I’m visiting. Twitter bully!

    (pssst… looks cool!)

    • Hahahaha thanks πŸ˜€ And my eternal and semi-sincere apologies for bullying you via Twitter. If I emotionally traumatized you, twas not what I intended.

  6. I really like the website!! =D The revamp is very nice, and I love the picture you used for your header. Plus, I’m rather partial to WordPress, so! πŸ™‚ It’s good, I think, until you can afford to get somebody to make a website/maintain it for you, LOL.
    :DD
Such wood grain! Many pictures! So page-filled! wow

  7. Love the site! Congrats! πŸ™‚

    • Thanks! Mostly I’m just glad I sorted out the website thing, because for a week there I didn’t have a website at all. Not that people are seeking out my website in eager hordes, but I figure I should have a site available just in case πŸ˜€

Michelle Proulx, author of Imminent Danger And How to Fly Straight into It, has updated her site so I figured I’d re-blog to share the news!

  9. Lovely – and so is your smile on the cover! πŸ™‚

  10. Love it! Good job. Can you design my website when I change it? πŸ˜‰
Except the shameless self promotion is now missing a sidebar with all your book ads!

    • Oh snap, good point! Hmmm … I don’t think the new theme supports a sidebar, to be honest. Honest opinion — did the sidebar actually inspire you to look at the books, or was it just kind of there and sometimes annoyingly in the way? The last thing I want to do is annoy people!!!

      • It made me aware of what you have available if I had missed the blog posts about them. Eg. The coin collector. Not annoying. Self-promotion is what your website is for so I reckon go for it! I’d be really surprised if your site/theme doesn’t support it. If not a sidebar, it might have multi-columns.

New update and look from a fellow blogger. Check out her site. Looks great.

Love it, Michelle! Looks great. You’d never know you “know nothing about web design!”

    • Huzzah!!! Well, it does get easier when they give you a template. You should have seen the first website I developed with HTML. Hot pink background, assorted neon colours for each paragraph of text, everything in comic sans … yeesh.

  14. Looking good in here! πŸ™‚

  15. Love the new look! πŸ˜€

Also, the Harry Potter jokes made me laugh. I giggled at the thought of Dumbledore giggling. I do have a reasonable answer for the liquid luck question though – Harry hadn’t found all the Horcruxes by then, so he would end up going through the trouble of killing Voldy for nothing.

Or maybe I’m just thinking too much into this and Harry really is dumb.

    • Liquid luck is a tricky one. Because they do mention that it’s extremely addictive, so potentially taking it more than a couple of times is really bad? That being said, Harry had only taken it once. If I were him, I would have kept that thing on me at all times, and as soon as I thought it was getting into a life-or-death battle, popped that potion back so quick you’d never realize it was even there. Then again, it was very noble of him to give the potion to his friends to keep them safe … and it’s possible they simply didn’t have access to more once they got to the seventh book.

I also think too much into this πŸ˜€

What do you think?
