About Me

DSCF1026Hi. I’m Michelle. I love fantasy, sci-fi, adventure, sappy romances, and everything awesome. I also write books from time to time. My current work in progress is Book #3 of the Imminent Danger series. This series is unabashedly ridiculous, and involves alien abduction, a heart-throb alien mercenary, laser guns, six-armed lizard men with a curious predilection for the color blue, and a teenage girl trying to find her way home. It’s awesome. You should read it.

I’m also very fond of bacon and cheesecake, although not at the same time. Call me a heathen if you must, but bacon on dessert just freaks me out.

Here are some more pictures of me. Prepare yourself.

I have discovered a broken column, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

My brief time as a magical butterfly. I got better.

My brother and I. He is approximately sixteen feet tall.

My mother and I. She edits all my books. I’m quite fond of her.

My best friend and her cats, Sirius and Giles. Sirius inspired an alien species called “moofas”, and Giles provides me with scintillating conversation.

Mother and I video chat when we edit my books. In this photo, she is laughing at me. Probably with good reason.

Mother is once again laughing at me. This is becoming a worrying trend.

Just bought your book. Looking forward to reading it!

    • Awesome! Let me know what you think when you’re done 🙂 Unless you hated it, in which case you can quietly de-follow me and pretend like I never existed. I promise I won’t take offence, lol.

      • minisculegiants

Just finished it. So fun! I’ll be sharing it with my daughters. 🙂

        • Woo! Glad to hear it 😀 Hopefully your daughters will enjoy it too!

I don’t suppose you had a favourite quote you’d care to share with me? I’m compiling a list of quotes for my own devious purposes. Muahahahaha.

          • minisculegiants

            I so understand that. 🙂

Would an Amazon review work? I’m planning on writing one tomorrow. Or do you mean me quoting a favorite part from your book? I can do that, too. 🙂

            • An Amazon review would be fantastic. And if you feel like posting it on assorted other websites (Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, etc.), that’d be fab too 😀 Really, whatever you do will be above and beyond the call of duty!

And I asked about your favourite quote because my mother keeps telling me to make Imminent Danger promotional stuff (t-shirts, mousepads, etc.), and we thought it would be cool to have quotes from the book on them. So I’m compiling a list of the best quotes, and I’m hoping you have one or two you enjoyed so I can add them to my list 😀

  2. Glad you came by and liked my post. Good journey.

  3. Thanks for following my blog! And allow me to return the favor! 😀

Hey Michelle. I nominated you for one of those blog award thingies: http://iamawriterdangit.wordpress.com/2013/03/01/one-lovely-blog-award/

    Kim

  5. Hey! Thanks for the follow! I just checked your bookout ! Well, as a fan of this kind of genre, I have to say that I’ll have to read it all! 🙂 You have talent. Keep up this way Michelle!

    PS Cheesecake rules! 😀

    • Hahaha well if you do read it, have fun and enjoy 🙂 Cheesecake does indeed rule. What’s your favourite flavour? I’m leaning toward strawberry/chocolate, but I’m open to suggestions.

  6. kathils

I’m tagging you for the Inspiring Blogger Award in my post tomorrow. 🙂 No obligation, of course. I know not everyone does the blog award thing. But you’re always one of my favs.

    • Aw, thanks 🙂 I do love getting awards, although I did stop doing the passing them on thing. It sounds really hoity toity, but there was a period about four months back where I was nominated for like a gajillion awards and I just couldn’t keep up, so I threw the towel in. But I definitely appreciate the nomination nonetheless 🙂

  7. I nominated you for the Sunshine Award. I will be making the official post shortly.

  8. Moment Matters

    Hello Michelle,

The free e-book “Greatest Articles | Moment Matters”, featuring your comment, is out now! You may download it in Nook, Kobo, ePUB or PDF format here.

    Cheers!

  9. Thanks for stopping by my blog–I’m so glad you did! You have something I very much admire but have trouble expressing: a sense of humor. I’m looking forward to spending more time with your blog and reading Imminent Danger.

  10. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I’m glad it gave me a chance to look around yours. Sounds like an interesting plot!

  14. Michelle;
For entertainment beyond price (plus some useful tips here and there…) I’ve just nominated you for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award.
Please see http://andrewtoynbee.wordpress.com/2013/04/17/honoured-to-receive-the-dragons-loyalty-award for details or watch out for today’s post!

    • Awww thanks 😀 See your post for my comment. Oh, and you’ll be happy to know I’m 34% through Construct of Angels and really enjoying it so far. One question: I get the feeling that parts of the text are supposed to be italicized — is that the case? Because whatever weird ereader I’m using makes everything normal text (no italics), so I wanted to check.

      • Noooooooooooo (in italics).
Do you know what format are you reading it in? ePub, mobi, pdf…

        • I think it’s epub.

          • Hmm…I can send you over a copy in that format to replace it – sorry you’re having problems. I sent the original, didn’t I?

            • I think so … but the ereader I use automatically deletes all italics, so sending a new version probably wouldn’t help. I would say send a .mobi, but … well, I have problems getting mobis onto my tablet because I’m technology illiterate. Not to worry! I’m understanding the story just fine with the de-italicized version 🙂

              • There are a lot of italics as Sara considers her situation. I hope the lack of them doesn’t detract too much… 😦
I have a pdf version but that format can be equally frustrating on an eReader as it doesn’t adjust or scroll properly. >.<

    Hey Michelle,

I hope you don’t mind but I nominated you for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award. Check out the link for more info on it 🙂 http://wp.me/p31bhm-76

    Thanks!

Much like the lovely blogger who nominated me, I generally don’t participate in these awards things. (I know, I know, EVERYONE says that), but I thought the WordPress Family Award was actually pretty special, decided to spread the love, and nominated you. Stop by my latest post accepting the award for details if you’re interested (http://wp.me/pwIUF-5B )…I promise I won’t be offended if you’re not though. I know a lot of people don’t do these things. Cheers!

  17. Hey Michelle, I’ve nominated you for the Super Sweet Blogging Award!

I enjoy your blog and have nominated you for the Liebster blog award. I love the happy feel of it, even when things don’t go as you expected. You bring a freshness and a joyful outlook to your readers. Read more about it in today’s post

    • Aw, thanks 😀 I try to keep positive, lol. Otherwise I would probably melt into a puddle of despair, and then where would we be???

  19. Hi, you just won my Story Premise Challenge. Come choose your prize 🙂

  24. Hi M, I saw your post about cover design. I saw this website and thought of you.

    https://www.hiretheworld.com/

    • I should have said the book covers are just awesome! And they look professionally published.

      • I’ve actually seen this site before! It’s definitely an idea worth considering, especially because you get so many options to choose from. Thanks for the suggestion 🙂

        • 🙂 I am going to use this, I just think you get so much choice for your bucks and they look really professional.

          • Let me know how it goes! Do they have some sort of money-back guarantee, where they refund you if you don’t like any of the cover designs?

  25. I love your blog, and I’d like to nominate you for the Liebster blogging award! If you’re interested, check out the link: http://ambitiouspoet.wordpress.com/2013/06/03/liebster-blog-award/

  26. Hi. Thanks for stopping by my blog and liking my post. You’ve got a great blog here. And the plot of your book sounds very interesting!

    • Thanks 🙂 I was just browsing through the Books category and saw your post — there were so great summer read ideas there! Now I just need to locate a beach where I can read said books 😀

  27. Michelle, I have enjoyed your blog for a while now and am now officially your follower, which sounds like stalker…but you followed me first 🙂
I will completely be buying your book. I would love some advice and just to talk writing sometime!!!
Do you have any thoughts about BookBaby

    • Hahaha well, if I’m the original follower, that definitely absolves you of any stalker-like tendencies 😀

Yay! I hope you have a blast reading it 🙂 And hey, feel free to email me any time! I’m not sure how good my advice is, but I do love talking about writing.

Bookbaby … never used it, unfortunately, but I’ve heard good things. It’s supposed to be excellent at distributing your ebook to various online markets, but I don’t know much beyond that … 🙂

      • I have two books out through iUniverse. Won’t be using them again, but it was a learning experience as everything is. I have looked into bookbaby and may use them. I would love to talk shop with you. My friends try to understand, but it is hard for non-writers. Email me any time msodaro@hotmail.com

  28. Thanks so much for following What The Hell! I’m looking forward to reading your stuff too.

  29. Hi! I’m Dewey, and I am also a fan of bacon and cheesecake. Although I would totally eat them at the same time if I had the chance!

    • Hi! You would??? I once tried a maple cupcake with caramelized bacon bits on top. It was interesting, but definitely not one of my top 10 combinations. I think my ideal meal would be bacon, followed by cheesecake, followed by a Shirley Temple, because let’s face it, Shirley Temples are delicious.

  30. Hello, I am awed by your pictures and I have nominated you for the Shine On Blogger Award. Congratulations, you may follow this link for further details. http://wp.me/p3ia4v-pb Namaste, Oliana Kim

  31. Hey Michelle–I really like your style and look forward to following you. Your FAQ is hilarious, and it sounds like you had a lot of fun writing Imminent Danger.

  32. Michael

From Reading just a brief summary on your book Imminent Danger I really wanted to comment! From all those items in your book the very first thing came to mind: AREA 51…especially the words: “Alien, Lizards, Abduction.” Well, congrats on your book. Did you use IUniverse for this book? A friend of mine, Rev Doug Mosley wrote a book a while back and used IUniverse. He got his published in 2007. Well, today when I was speaking to him he said he paid $340 dollars. I said to him, ” What? That’s really cheap!” So I go searching for IUniverse and stumble on your article and well a- here I am.
Well, I am still searching for a way to print/publish my poetry books. Any thoughts?

    Because of Him;
    Michael
P.S. by the way, your really cute! I say that with platonic intention…just
stating a fact! I love your glasses( I wear them and contacts) and have
always thought women who wear glasses are really sexy looking with them?!

  33. Hi Michelle, I nominated you for this award because your blogs always make me laugh!

    http://jadereyner.com/2013/10/30/the-awesome-blog-content-award/

    Best wishes, Jade.

  34. I have been following you for some time, but can’t find you in my reader…hence I keep hitting follow and unfollow, so if you see a list of follows and it seems your notifications have gone nuts, its just me. Dealing with a wordpress glitch.

    • Hahaha no worries. Follow and Unfollow away 🙂

      • You know, I’ve had this same problem. You don’t show up in my reader. I’ve had to bookmark your blog separately just to check for updates. :-/ I mean, it’s totally worth it, but still. lol

        • Hmmm … that’s strange. I mean, that witch doctor DID curse me a few months back, but I thought the curse was restricted only to sites like Facebook and Google+, not WordPress …

  35. Hi Michelle,
Just letting you know I have nominated you for the dragon loyalty award.
    http://aroundtheredmap.wordpress.com/2014/02/13/dragons-loyalty-award/
    Cheers, Louise

  36. Hi Michelle – I was thrust in your direction by the glowing recommendation on Andrew Toynbee’s Blog Hop post. I’m looking forward to catching up on what sounds like a thoroughly enjoyable journey.

  37. What is ‘space opera’? This is the first time I’ve heard the term and it’s made me curious!

    • Great question! A space opera is basically a science fiction book that’s technically set in space with aliens and spaceships and whatnot, but the real focus of the book is on the characters and their relationships. Whereas more mainstream sci-fi often is more concerned with the actual “science” of science fiction. For example, Star Wars is considered to be a space opera, whereas a movie like Alien would be more traditional sci-fi.

Here’s a link if you want to read more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_opera

      • Thanks for the link! I have read and enjoyed many of the writers listed there, without ever knowing they were writing space opera.

  39. I was wondering who did the cover work for your book. I am trying to move outside Amazon to other sites, but I am without a cover. Just wondering, trying to stay cheap, not much money to spend. I noticed you had a category for Guest Posts. Is there something I could do that I could share on your blog. I’m good at poetry, maybe you could post to mine, something about your book. Keep up the good work. Thanks for any help you can give me.

    • Hey 🙂 The cover was done by iUniverse as part of one of their self-publishing packages, but it was fairly expensive, so I wouldn’t recommend it. There are a lot of cheap covers you can get out there — I’d say just Google “cheap ebook covers” and see what you find 🙂 I do have guest posts from time to time — I’d be happy to feature you! Shoot me an email at michellishelli@gmail.com and we can work out the details.

  40. Thanks for the tips. I will shoot you that email. Be happy to blog about most things.

  41. Your books sound so interesting. I hope to read them in the near future.

  42. Want Imminent Danger stuffs, like bookmarks and purple hooded sweatshirts! Seriously though, do you have any gear available to purchase anywhere? I absolutely LOVED your book and will probably annoyingly tell everyone I know, get as much gear as possible, and use catchphrases from the book until I have converted the masses using a ripple effect.

    • I love your enthusiasm!!!!! You can be the first member of my official fan club, founded today 😀 Umm … let’s see … I don’t really have anything for sale, but if you email me your address I can send you some bookmarks and stickers and a fridge magnet 🙂 I’ll have to look into getting some merchandise made!

      • Sweet! Thanks, it’s much appreciated. I’ve already told a bunch of people that they need to read the book. I sure hope you post if you are able to get stuff for sale. Even ondemand “official” stuff from like dazzle would be awesome! I shall email you soon. 🙂

  43. I love your energy and humor. Thank you for stopping by my blog and “the like.”

  44. I really like the re-design of your website. New photos FTW! 🙂 It just reminds me that I need to visit more often. lol

    • Wait, you’re saying you don’t visit 3 times a day? GASP. I’m offended, I’ll have you know. Also, many thanks 🙂 I’m pretty pleased by the new design.

  45. Michelle, you are just too cute! It’s so nice to meet you. Thank you for visiting my blog and reading my horror/sci-fi series. 😀

  46. omg, you seem like such a nice person! Love your humor 🙂
